  • Hello Jakodrako,

I am confuseid. Dean Lister & Lean and Mean have the same effect. The card boost the strenght of an / all Icebreaker. Both for one run and both cards are after the effecte solved in the heap. So why it the effect from Dean Lister variable and change the boost when the handcards are changed and Leean and Mean check it onle once?

From my prospective this is inconsistent - both card should have the same ruling. Can you help me?

    Best,

    René aka Dalhill

  • By and large content needs to be confined to content pages rather than category pages; see our conversation further down about the merge for the reasons. If you could move that content back, that'd be great ;)

    Best regards

    • Hmm. I don't like having multiple pages for the same information; it seems really pointless. I don't think I understand the reasons, could you explain please? Are you saying the mobile game guide doesn't see category pages? Why not? That seems like the place to fix the issue rather than having twice as many pages as necessary (what even is the "mobile game guide"?). Also, the merge thing seems like a moot point now that the merge is complete, no?

Sorry if this seems like an obvious thing. This is my first real experience with wikias.

    • There are a couple of different reasons why - I'll probably miss some, but the basic notion is that category pages are meant as a table of contents, so to speak. In a book you'd only see a very brief description (a few lines), at most, of what is contained within a given chapter, and the same holds true here.

From a technical standpoint those category pages - even while containing content - are not counted in the total page count of the site. Redirect pages aren't, either. This doesn't help Google rankings, especially if you want as many people as possible to come. (Personal note: I once ran into a site that showed it only had five pages of content. After digging, I found that all 30+ pages of actual content was on category pages, so that low count made it appear that the site was not built, not only to Google, but anyone that visited.).

Search doesn't use categories unless you add "Category:".

If you ever wanted to recategorize something, you couldn't just do a category redirect because the content pages wouldn't show up under the new category.

You also can't rename a category the way you can a content page if the need arose.

For merges, if it ever came down to it again, only content from content pages is able to be transferred using the MediaWiki tools. All content placed on a category page would first have to be redirected to a content page, then transferred. Of course, this also matters if someone wants to export content for any other reason.

So taking all of the above into consideration and given that very few of our sites use category pages in such a way, the Game Guides App only uses category pages as they are intended: to sort and display pages related to the category. The app itself still needs to be created for this site, but it's a quick tool people can use to look up anything they want about a subject quickly.

      So, to sum up:

      1. Content pages are counted in total page count; category pages are not
      2. Content pages are used in search; category pages are not
      3. Category pages cannot be redirected to another category page with the result of all the content pages falling under the new category.
      4. Content pages can be renamed; category pages cannot.
      5. Content pages are transferred to other sites using import/export tools; category pages are not.
      6. Content pages are used in the Game Guide App; category pages are not.

    • Okay cool! Thanks for the in depth explanation. Thankfully, I only did a cycle's worth of those pages, so it's easy to switch it back. I didn't realize it was such a big deal! It's nice that you're still paying attention though :) Please do always feel free to tell me when I'm doing something wrong.

    • No problem :) A lot of folks don't know the "under the hood" dealings with categories, so it's always nice to pass it along.

  • Hey there Jakodrako!

I'm Jorge from Wikia's Community Development team. We are putting together a Year in Fandom Fan Studio event and I was looking for card gamers from across Wikia who might be familiar with Hearthstone. If it's a game you play, let me know and I'll be sure to send you more information!

    Best,

    Jorge

  • Heya, Jakodrako!

Just wanted to let you know that the merge process is now complete. The other site is now redirecting here - there were about 160 pages that needed to be tweaked by hand to update to the template here.

For those pages, feel free to rename their associated image files, but do it before adding in the octgncode; once those are all done, feel free to remove the image parameter I added to the template.

I went ahead and moved quite a bit of content from category pages and onto actual content pages. There's multiple reasons for that - primarily: the content will be seen by our mobile game guide and it's much easier to perform merges. I hit all the major ones, I think, but there's sure to be some pages that can still be created. Also, the new pages need to be correctly categorized.

I also went ahead and finished popping in the tooltip template on the card cell page ;)

Let me know if there's anything else you need (or if I broke anything!)

    Best regards,

    Raylan

  • Hey there Jakodrako,

So I'm a HUGE Netrunner fan and I saw your post on Reddit about the wiki, wanting some help, etc. I also happen to manage Wikia's gaming ComDev team. I want to help you make this wiki even more awesome. So basically, what are your goals with this wiki? Do you have any dream ideas we can help you with? A new skin? Wordmark? Hover-over options?

Also, there is another netrunner wiki here: netrunner.wikia.com. If you're interested, I would love to merge the two to have a one-stop shop for all things Netrunner and Netrunner rules. What do you think?

Looking forward to getting you all set up!

    • No worries ;)

I don't think it will cause any issues. The export/import function doesn't work with images anyway, so it's by hand. Since the templates here are going to be the base from which things are further tweaked, the image names from here will be used.

I'm going to try to carve out some time tomorrow to get this going - it's likely it won't be complete until next week, but hard to tell until I really get into the meat of things. I'll keep you up to date, of course, and let you know if I need another pair of hands - thanks for offering :)

    • I'll be back on Monday to continue the work! For now, tooltip hovers should be activated here. To avod a huge amount of hassle, any template that lists cards can be modified - the template is easy to use:

      {{Tooltip|PAGENAME}}

      Example: Blackmail

Due to limitations, it can be set up to show the entire card box or just the image. I've got it set right now to show the image ;)
